How To Make Nail Polish From Scratch

I just came out of a no nail polish phase. Not because I minded having my nails painted, but because of the oh so terrible things that are in store bought nail polish! Now that I know how to make healthier nail polish, I can paint my nails all I want.

Many store bought nail polishes include the ingredients DBP, Toluene, Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin or Camphor. I’m not going to go into much detail about these neurotoxic/carcinogens because people should research it for themselves. I could ramble on and on about this but you’re here for a tutorial, aren’t you?

Its fun to make your own stuff but usually the best part is it ends up being cheaper! Another benefit is you can make so many different colors and combinations.

To make your own nail polish you’ll need:

An empty nail polish bottle. Make sure it has a mixing ball to help thoroughly mix. If it doesn’t ask your husband to get you ball bearings that fit through the bottle neck or steal some of your kids metal BB’s. Make sure the BB’s aren’t the type that have lead cores.

~1/4 tsp Mica powder (bronze, shimmer pearl, gold, etc.)

5 Free type suspension nail base

measuring spoon

a small funnel

This nail polish is absolutely amazing. It dries fast, and doesn’t chip as easily as store bought polish. I’ve made a video tutorial to show you how to make it! Don’t forget to “like” and “subscribe!”

What color nail polishes are you going to make?
