DIY Natural Mascara

DIY Natural Mascara

Lately I’ve been making my own makeup. I feel like my skin has started to thank me for it. Not only is this homemade makeup  healthier without all the added chemicals, but it’s cheaper, and fun!

If you’ve ever researched the ingredients on your favorite makeup products and wondered what IS THAT…mostly those unpronounceable ones? Ya, some can be a bit scary. (But not all, some perfectly natural things are pretty hard to say, ha!) I digress, you should always be informed as to what goes on and in your body… Make your skin happy. It will thank you for it.

Many online DIY mascara recipes call for activated charcoal to color the mascara. It’s not a bad ingredient, but I wouldn’t want it so close to my eyes. It’s a fairly gritty substance that’s used for cleaning and whitening. It’s abrasive so if you accidentally get some in your eye, you’ll need to flush with plenty of water.

For this recipe though, I like black cocoa powder. It’s very dark brown, an almost black powder. Black cocoa powder adds volume and promotes healthy hair growth through Vitamin A, Thiamine, and Riboflavin, all good lash stuff!

Aloe Vera gel is used for hold and provides additional nutrients and proteins that help strengthen hair. Beeswax adds volume and can also promote healthy hair growth.
